Learn More about Machine Washable Rugs

You can learn more about machine washable rugs from this article.

You know that your area rugs make great accents to any room. They are just like any other type of flooring or carpet, they will get dirty and need to be cleaned. Typically, your area rugs should be washed only once every year or two. It is because the excessive exposure to water can damage area rugs. But if you choose not to take your area rug to a professional cleaner, you can wash an area rug at home. Make sure that you know how to do it with care. You can learn more about machine washable rugs down below.

You need to prepare for the tools and materials like vacuum cleaner, clean, damp towel, baking soda, wool shampoo or mild dish soap, 1 cup white vinegar, soft-bristled scrub brush, and rubber squeegee.

First, you need to vacuum the area rug thoroughly to remove loose dirt and dust using caution when vacuuming around the edges of the rug where there may be fringes attached. Then you need to turn the rug over and vacuum the underside, as well, to remove dust and dirt.

Second, you can then spot clean the area rug as needed. And if you find there is a stain on the rug, you should treat the individual stain prior to washing the entire rug. You can blot the stain with a clean, damp towel to remove the stain by sprinkling baking soda on the stained area of the rug. It will lift tough stains. After that, you can vacuum up the baking soda once the stain is lifted.

Third, you need to wash the top of the rug first. By placing the rug in a bathtub filled with lukewarm water, you need to add a wool shampoo or mild detergent to the water. After that you can add 1 cup of white vinegar as well.

Fourth, you should scrub the rug gently using a soft-bristled scrub brush, scrubbing in the same direction as the nap. Remember that you should avoid scrubbing forcefully so as not to damage the rug's fibers.

Fifth, you should flip the rug over in the bathtub and wash the underside. And using the soft scrub brush to thoroughly scrub away any dirt or dust that has collected, you can then rinse the rug with plain water to remove soap and dirt residue.

Sixth, you can then let the water out of the bathtub while leaving the rug inside. And using a rubber squeegee to go over the rug to remove excess water, you can run the squeegee in the direction of the nap.

Last, you can lay the rug flat to dry with the carpeted side up. Ideally, you can lay the rug outside on a clean driveway or patio to air dry. And once the carpeted side of the rug feels dry, you need to turn the rug over to dry the underside. After that, you should allow the rug to dry thoroughly before placing it back into position on the floor.
