How to Build a Corner Media Console

You can learn how to build a corner media console from this article.

You know you can place a TV in your corner of the room to take up less space. It will be more efficient than to have a square or rectangular console, since it "wedges" into the corner. And then if you can build your own furniture pieces, you can build a corner TV console out of standard lumber and plywood. Don’t worry, since we provide you the how to build a corner media console. You can find there is no need to break out some of that old algebra knowledge to calculate the measurement of a right triangle to get the pieces right.

Prepare for the materials and tools, such as particle board, 3/4-inch thick, ruler, pencil, power saw, 2-by-6 boards, drill, wood screws, 4 L-brackets (more if you will add shelves), wood glue, trim boards (optional), and lacquer paint (optional).

First, you need to design the size of your console. You can find this depends on the size of the TV. This is because it needs to fit safely on top. You can then measure the space available in the corner. Later on, you need to decide on the number of shelves you need to hold the cable/satellite box, DVR/DVD player, video storage and possibly the stereo.

Second, you should then draw the measurements for the top and bottom pieces of the console onto the particle board. You can find these two pieces should be right triangles in order to fit in the corner. You can also add as many pieces of the same shape and size for your shelves. Remember that you should also cut them out with the saw.

Third, you can then cut four pieces the height of your console from the 2-by-6 boards by lining up the boards vertically so you can attach the 6-inch sides to the side edges of the particle board.

Fourth, you need to brace the top and bottom to the boards with L-brackets. Then you need to screw two brackets to the underside of the top and the inner sides of the 2-by-6 boards. Don’t forget to also screw two brackets to the topside of the bottom piece, then to the inner sides of the boards.

Fifth, you need to add the shelves to the console, so they will line up with the top and bottom pieces and their edges fitting against the side boards. You should position each shelf for a height 1 to 2 inches taller than the device that will go there. After that, you can fit them in place with wood glue before screwing each shelf to the side boards (as you did with the top and bottom). Don’t forget to brace each shelf with L-brackets.

Sixth, you need to glue trim boards to the sides for a smooth finish. And if you do this, drill or cut out large holes in one side for power cords to fit through.

Last, you should paint or stain the console and then let dry completely before setting up the TV and other devices.
