If you find the counters in your kitchen or bath begin to look worn out and dingy after a few years, even if they are in good condition, you may not like the pattern or color of the counter surface. You can find the paint is a miracle worker on almost any substance. As for granite, it is the most expensive surface that you can put in your kitchen. But if you can't afford granite but you can afford a few cans of paint, then you can consider faux painting techniques. This painting can turn your boring linoleum or Formica into a look that imitates granite. Learn how to paint faux granite countertops down below.

You need to prepare some things like ammonia based cleaner, rags, sandpaper, primer, paint, foam roller, sea sponges, and Polyurethane.

First, you can choose a granite color and pattern by looking at granite samples at a tile store to choose granite that you like. Then you can take the pattern to your paint store. After that, you can purchase three to four paint colors that are found in the granite that you have chosen. You can use enamel or acrylic paints as the most durable.

Second, you can then clean your counters with ammonia based cleaner and clean rags by scrubbing off the entire residue from the counters. If you find any grime left behind, it will interfere with the paint's ability to bond to the surface of the cabinet. Then you can dry the counter thoroughly.

Third, you need to sand the counter with medium grit sandpaper by creating texture on the surface of the counter with the sandpaper. Later on, you could find some texture will allow the primer to sink in and adhere to the surface. Then you can wipe off all sanding dust with a damp rag.

Fourth, you can apply primer to the counters with a smooth foam roller by saturating the roller with primer and roll a thin layer onto the counters. You can then allow the primer to dry for four to six hours.

Fifth, you can paint the counters with the base color of paint, apply a thin coat of paint with a smooth foam roller, allow the first coat to dry to the touch, about 30 minutes, apply a second coat of the same color and then dip a sea sponge into one of the accent colors.
