Profoundly Happiness

'There is no such thing as infinite happiness. We all know that.' Cecile flipped tenderloin beef on her aluminum saute pan using one hand while the other busy holding cigarette onto her mouth. She was talking to her fiance. At once she thought they wouldn't make it. Andreas didn't have any clue what was wrong.

'I can make you happy, with our marriage... the babies that we'll have and this fabulous house,' he ensured Cecile about what they have planned after marriage. 'at least, that is all I know about happiness...It depends on us, we work everything out together.'

Cecile stood still while having smoke swarming up her nose; smoke from the heat of the pan and the cigarette she had. 'It just seems silly, sometimes. How can we become so naive and forget the strongest power out there that can flip our world upside down anytime it wants?'

'Yeah, I know. So what is wrong with that? That power will lead us to stay still following where it leads us to.' Andreas hugged her from the back. He could feel her fragrance joined with the meat that had been cooked.

'I don't think I will understand. I don't think I could accept it. I'm so afraid.' Cecile started to cry and her teardrops fell onto the pan. She was hurt with the splashes from the pan. It hurt her eyes. Andreas then dragged her to a chair which sat quietly next to the round dining table.

'You are hurt. Please, darling, what is going on with you actually? Just say it.'

Cecile kept crying. There was something aching hurting her lungs. She could feel it was hurt so bad she couldn't even breathe. Her howl went louder.

'I don't know. I just don't understand, at times like this, when I should have been the happieset woman in the world, but I don't know I feel hurt at my chest. It hurts so bad, please help me...' she held her chest.

'Do you think we need to go to the hospital?' Andreas went crazy. He didn't have any clue about this, like at all. It happened that fast. The mood-swinger girl he would marry went back to the one with sorrow carried on her. And it is impossible to ask her for sharing the burden together. Most of the time, she would carry it by herself. He doesn't want that to happen.

'Are my parents okay? Please make a call. I'm afraid there is something wrong with them.'

'Aren't your parents in USA now?'

'Yes, they should have flown back here since two days ago. I couldn't reach them ever since they transit on Netherlands. I'm afraid there is something wrong with them.'

At the same time they heard a news about MK17 flight who got shot by some rebels when the plane crossing the border of two clashed countries.

'Oh, God. Please don't tell me. Please.' Cecile went hysterical. 'Please, don't tell me it's true. Goddammit! When I'm so profoundly happy, I should face this frightening fact. Oh my God...' Cecile hugged Andreas and they all howled.

Moral lesson: Profoundly happiness is actually frightening. They only let you be this happy if they are preparing to take something from you.  Khalled Hosseini
